Issue #2 EVP Column

Hi everyone and welcome to the first EVP column for 2009!

I hope that all first year students have enjoyed their first week of University life and wish that returning students have also had a high-spirited one.

This year will propose many new adventures academically and socially for all members of the Massey University Albany community. I urge all students to actively involve themselves in whatever opportunities that arise and encourage everyone to try something new, meet new people, and have some fun.

There are a wide range of social activities that have been organised for O-week during the day and night, so make the most of the hot summer rays while it lasts and mix and mingle with your fellow peers.

During Academic Orientation, I attended the Massey University Scholarship holders gathering. It was great to see so many scholarships offered to students that excel across the board academically and in sporting fields. The calibre of students was impressive and it is great to know that these talented students have joined Massey.

This year I will endeavour to raise the profile of education related initiatives at Massey and within the wider environment. I wish to recognise student’s achievements in all subject areas and at all levels of study.

Class Representatives are now wanted and I would like to push each and every one of you to take part in this excellent programme. Anyone can apply to become a class rep and there is no limit as to how many class reps there can be for one paper. If you are interested, please see your lecturer to sign up or collect an application form from the ASA office in the Atrium Building.

A big thanks to all the Uni-guides for taking tours around campus during the academic orientation and O-week festivities. Your commitment and support are recognised and highly valued.

I wish you all a successful semester!

Until next time,

Annie Zhang
