Albany Students’ Association president Brad Heap will represent Massey Auckland students on a national level after being appointed to two important roles.
In late November of last year, Heap was confirmed as co-ordinator for the Massey University Students’ Association Federation (MUSAF) – the overarching body that ASA and the student associations from Massey’s other campuses operate under.
Heap is excited by the prospect of taking up the position. “It is great to have this role,” he says. “I want to see MUSAF develop and become a strong united voice for all students at Massey rather than just a sleeping giant that we get our fees through.”
A month later, Heap was then also elected as the general students’ representative on the Massey University Council. He is joined by two other student representatives – Ralph Springett, president of the Extramural Students’ Society and Royna Fifield from the Palmerston North campus, who will represent Maori students.
“Being on the Massey University Council is a fantastic opportunity and I am grateful for it,” says Heap. “The three of us will be able to bring a strong, relevant student voice to the council table and will aim to ensure that the council always puts its key stakeholders – students – first.”
Heap is only the third president from Albany to sit on Massey’s council. Former president Josh Clark was the last to do so during his term in 2006. Prior to that, only 2003 president Matt Evetts had been part of the panel.
