Rob Thomas: Cradlesongs

Reviewer: Colgate

3.5/5- just can’t give it 4 cause it’s not MB20

Well we all have had a bit of a break and its time to kick back into things. I have had a CD in my hands for about a month which I have actually had trouble writing about. See, I like the singer, however I don’t like the fact that he is doing solo work on the side.

Everyone should know Rob Thomas and his soothing voice from the band Matchbox 20. When Matchbox 20 went on hiatus we saw Rob finally try and break into the solo market with the likes of Serj Tankian, Brian McFadden, … well you get the idea.

But my personal stance is that it shouldn’t happen, I mean yes, I like Matchbox 20, and his solo work is somewhat like Matchbox 20, but its just NOT Matchbox 20.

Putting that aside I have decided to brave the elements and check out his latest album Cradlesongs. NOW I know I have just ragged on Rob Thomas for going solo, and that he doesn’t sound like Matchbox 20 and should just stick to being in a band, but cradlesongs is something different, something magical.

He is able to still pull of the “This is not Matchbox 20” sound, but it actually sounds like Matchbox 20, creepy I know. Her Diamonds is an awesome track that makes you think you are listening to the next Matchbox hit.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet for you all, I actually enjoyed this album, it’s got the toe tapping sound going for it, and with tracks like Her Diamonds, Gasoline, and Mockingbird (to name a few), you wont be able to tell the difference if your listening to Rob Thomas solo or Matchbox 20.
